In Italy, Cruise the Amalfi Coast through a Clipper Ship

Amalfi Coast, Italy

Have you always dreamt of boarding a real clipper ship and experience how it was like to be on board one of the most historical and influential modes of transportation in the past?

Don’t think that clipper ships are phased-out just yet as you can see and ride one along no other than the Italian World Heritage Site of Amalfi Coast.

Not convinced? Well, Daily Mail UK Travel writer Julie Peasgood boarded one herself in the hope of fulfilling her dream to “climb the rigging of a tall ship” (“Set Sail for Italy: Naughty Napkins, Fine Food and Climbing the Rigging on a Clipper Voyage”). And don’t expect that you’ll be cruising the historic Amalfi Coast with a mere old revamped version of a clipper because the one Peasgood rode, namely the Royal Clipper, boasts of a “sheer romantic beauty” that instantly took her breath away.

Below is an excerpt from her travel article:

-- the ship might look like the Cutty Sark but the onboard amenities are bang up-to-date and include three swimming pools, one of which has a glass bottom that doubles (somewhat disconcertingly) as the ceiling of the bar below… But my favorite hidey-hole was up on deck in one of the 'secret' balconies, tucked away on either side of the bow. Nestling here, G&T in hand and a gentle breeze balancing unexpectedly high temperatures, I was one satisfied sailor.

Get the remainder of her story here, and learn more about the amenities on board of the Royal Clipper as well as the rest of her experience while cruising along the Amalfi Coast.
